Parent and Carer Update - 14th January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I have a number of updates for you.

Teaching

We have now managed to get Year 9 lessons live, so now nearly every Y9, 10 and 11 lesson is being live taught.  We are working on the last few device issues for Year 7 and 8 and I will be writing to you shortly with our live plans for them.  Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have had so far.  It has been heart-warming.  Once year groups are having live teaching we will no longer be supplying paper packs as teachers will set the work in their lesson and go over work done in their lesson.  Students will be expected to submit work online once a week for teachers to check.

Registers

We are taking registers in live lessons and will soon be emailing parents to tell you how many lessons your child has attended.  We are currently tweaking the system to make it work as we need to as we have had to set this system up from scratch since lockdown.

Collecting Stationery

We are aware that some students are running short of paper etc and so we will be sending each tutor group a time when they can come to the front of school, socially distanced, and collect whatever they need for their home learning.  Look out for your email with your child’s time on.

Progress Evening

Thank you to Year 7-10 parents who attended progress evening online last night.  The second evening is next Thursday so if you did not attend this week you need to get your appointment for next week.

Tutor phone calls home

All parents will be getting a fortnightly phone call from tutors or YTLs (providing they are well) to make sure everything is OK and to speak to your child.  These start this week for Year 11 and will happen in a fortnightly cycle.  For Y7-10 tutors will call you if you have not had a progress evening discussion.  For the majority of you who did attend progress evening tutors will start their fortnightly phone calls w/c 25th January.

BTEC Exams and GCSEs

Yesterday the government announced that the BTECs for February and March will not go ahead.  The system for how grades will be set is not yet published.  I will write again when it is. There is no clarity on GCSE exam grades yet – again as soon as I know I will be in touch.

Reminder of Year 11 parents’ evening

This will be online like the last one and will take place on Thursday 4th February.

Finally…

Please remember that we are in school working so let us know if you need anything.  The phones are being answered and we have an email address for you too: Support@beaumontleys.leicester.sch.uk.  If you need technical, ICT support then please use ICTSupport@beaumontleys.leicester.sch.uk

With warm wishes,

Dawn Parkinson
